The Central Elections Committee updated this evening (Thursday) on the count of double envelopes.
Earlier, the committee reported that after an initial estimate of 600,000 envelopes, the number has dropped by a fifth and now stands at between 430,000 and 480,000 envelopes, a figure equivalent to eight Knesset seats.
The process works as follows: after completing scans and checks, the inner ballot envelopes are removed from the outer envelopes and mixed together, severing the link between the voter's identity and his vote to preserve ballot secrecy. The envelopes are then transferred to the counting area in the Knesset parking garage.
