Kristin Davis, who played the beloved Charlotte in the iconic series Sex and the City, has opened up about the unbearable days when she tried to meet the extreme thinness standard that ruled Hollywood in the 1990s. On her new podcast, Are You a Charlotte, she revealed the relentless comments she endured about her body weight and the destructive diets she went through just to fit the mold.
In a candid conversation with actor Evan Handler, who played her husband on the series (Harry Goldenblatt), the two shared the struggles and scars they experienced around body image and the demanding attitude from the public and media during the show's run.
Davis recalled a particularly difficult period toward the end of one of the seasons, when she intensified her diet to a level where her bones were literally visible on screen. "It was one of those hot summers, and I remember I was just eating M&M's," she said. "I only ate M&M's for several weeks. I don't know how I didn't lose it. I didn't eat any real food. I had no chest left at all, I was just bones."
She also shared a pivotal moment from that time, when she visited an acupuncturist who was shocked by her eating pattern and urged her: "Don't put that in your mouth." Her innocent response in those days was: "Why not? It's all I eat." Davis explained that the pressure to look thin didn't come only from within, it also came from a prevailing atmosphere in the industry during that time.
