"A Major Strategic Mistake": Araghchi Warns the EU Over Terrorist Branding of Iranian Army

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has lashed out at European leaders, warning that designating the Iranian military as a terrorist organization is a self-destructive move that will lead to surging energy prices and regional war.

In a sharp escalation of diplomatic rhetoric, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused European nations of actively sabotaging peace efforts and pushing the Middle East toward the brink of an all out war. As the European Union moves closer to officially designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian national military as terrorist organizations, Araghchi characterized the shift as a desperate attempt by a "continent in severe decline" to maintain global relevance. The Foreign Minister’s comments highlight a deepening rift between Tehran and Brussels, as Iran shifts its focus away from European diplomacy and toward regional partners. According to Araghchi, while several countries are currently working to avert a total military explosion, not a single one of them is European, a fact he uses to paint the EU as an aggressor rather than a mediator in the current global climate.

Accusations of Strategic Blunders

Araghchi was particularly scathing regarding the European Union's alignment with American foreign policy, specifically the pursuit of the "snapback" mechanism to reimpose international sanctions. He argued that by following the lead of the United States, Europe is making "another major strategic mistake" by labeling Iran’s national military forces as a "terrorist organization." This move, Araghchi contends, is nothing more than a "PR stunt" designed to mask the internal weaknesses of European governments. He further pointed to what he called the "blatant hypocrisy of selective outrage," noting that Europe has taken "zero action" in response to the situation in Gaza, which he described as a genocide, while simultaneously rushing to "defend human rights" within Iranian borders.

The Iranian Foreign Minister suggested that the current European posture is not only morally bankrupt but also deeply damaging to Europe’s own survival. He warned that the continent is "certain to be massively impacted" by the fallout of an all out war, specifically citing the "knock-on effects of surging energy prices" that would devastate European industries and households. By choosing to fan the flames of the war instead of seeking a balanced resolution, Araghchi believes the EU is acting against the fundamental interests of its own people.

A Warning to the European Public

The rhetoric from Tehran has increasingly aimed to drive a wedge between European citizens and their elected leaders. Araghchi concluded his remarks by stating that "Europeans deserve better than what their governments have to offer," suggesting that the current leadership in Brussels is leading the continent toward an avoidable economic and security catastrophe. This warning comes at a time when the Iranian regime is under immense pressure from an American armada and internal protests, yet the leadership continues to project defiance.

Tehran’s strategy appears to be focused on threatening the global energy market to deter further sanctions. By linking the terrorist designation to the stability of the European economy, Araghchi is attempting to create domestic political pressure within the EU. However, as the European Union moves forward with its plans to blacklist the IRGC following reports of mass executions and support for terrorists like Hamas, the window for the "respectful dialogue" Araghchi claims to want is rapidly closing. The Iranian leadership is now making it clear that if Europe continues its current path, it will be held responsible for the economic and military firestorms that follow.
