Eliyahu Yossian, founder of the "Jewish Homeland" movement and a veteran of Unit 8200, Israel's elite signals intelligence unit, has weighed in on the balance of deterrence with Tehran, offering strong praise for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach to countering Iran's nuclear program.
Speaking with Avi Greenzweig on the "We Are the Majority" program on Galei Israel radio, Yossian described how Netanyahu is perceived by both the Iranian regime and its public. "There are two people who strike mortal fear in the streets of Iran: the late Ariel Sharon and Benjamin Netanyahu, who is known in Iran as 'the chess player,'" he said.
Yossian drew sharp distinctions between Netanyahu and other Israeli political candidates regarding their approach to the Iranian threat. "In reality, all the candidates currently running against Netanyahu have openly stated that we need to prepare for the day when Israel exists in a Middle East with a nuclear Iran," he noted.
