The mini-series The Things That Were Lost, produced by Kan Educational and Paramount’s Ananey Studio, has won the Special Award for Outstanding Scripted Youth Series at the Rockie Awards, held during the prestigious BANFF World Media Festival in Alberta, Canada. The international festival, recognized as one of the world’s leading television events, hosted 152 productions from 45 countries competing across 30 categories this year. The Israeli series faced strong competition, including Disney+’s popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a BBC series, and productions from Belgium-Canada and France-Germany.

This marks Kan Educational’s second win at the festival. In 2023, their series As Long as in the Heart won in the same category, standing out as the only Israeli production competing against entries from over 45 countries.

The three-episode series tackles the sensitive and complex topic of coping with loss and the significance of Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers. It addresses, for the first time for a young audience, the national trauma following the events of October 7. The story follows Rona, a reclusive teenager whose sister was murdered at the Nova Festival, and Oren, a boy whose officer father died when he was a child. The two meet while preparing for their school’s Memorial Day ceremony, forming a complex bond that leads them to confront their personal pain.

The series features a cast including Achinoam Moyal, Barak Shmuel Drexel, Rita Shukrun, Ohad Knoller, Michal Yanai, Shiri Nadav Naor, Gal Amitai, Yael Karpelov, and Anna Stefani. Created by Eden Gurion and Yair Peri, and directed by Roman Shomunov, the series aired on Kan Educational and Kan BOX and is available for viewing for those interested in experiencing this internationally acclaimed production.
