Rotem Sela, one of Israel’s most recognizable actresses and television hosts, has been cast in the lead role of a new drama series for Keshet 12, Srugim reported on Wednesday. The series was created and written by Ma’ayan Oz, a writer on the hit series Fauda and on Tagad.
Sela will play a successful talent agent living in New York. Her character is one of three sisters who set out on a shared journey that exposes dark family secrets and pulls all three of them into the criminal underworld. The series has not yet been given a title.
Ariel Benbaji, known for directing the comedy Shababnikim about a group of chareidi yeshiva students, will direct. Noah Stollman and Adi Arbel are serving as script editors, and Spiro Films is producing. According to Maariv, casting is underway for the remaining roles, including the two actresses who will play Sela’s sisters. Filming is scheduled to begin early next year.
The role continues a strong run in drama for Sela, who is best known abroad for Beauty and the Baker. In 2023 she starred alongside Yehuda Levi and Lior Raz in A Body That Works, the highest-rated Israeli drama of that year, which earned her the Best Actress award for an international series at France’s Series Mania festival and was later picked up by Netflix. Last year she starred in Red Alert, Keshet 12’s dramatization of the heroism shown during the October 7 Hamas attacks, which was released internationally on Paramount+.
Sela continues to co-host Keshet 12’s flagship reality shows alongside Assi Azar, including The Next Star and Ninja Israel.
