Bennett Slams Government Over Haredi Draft Deal: "A Devastating Blow to Reservists"
The comments arrive in an atmosphere of heightened public frustration over the burden carried by Israel’s reserve forces, many of whom have served continuously since the October 7 attacks. Protests over Haredi draft exemptions, long a source of social tension, have intensified in recent months as casualty figures rise and calls for shared sacrifice grow louder.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett launched a fierce attack Thursday on the Israeli government's latest agreements with ultra-Orthodox parties regarding a revised conscription law. In a sharply worded statement, Bennett accused the coalition of abandoning Israel’s reservists and further entrenching inequality in military service and the workforce.
“In the middle of the night, the Israeli government delivered a devastating blow to reservists,” Bennett said. “Exhausted soldiers and their families, who hoped for some relief, are being told: ‘No help is coming. Fend for yourselves.’”
The proposed legislation, part of a broader compromise with Haredi political factions, reportedly includes provisions to restore benefits to yeshiva students who avoid military service, such as daycare subsidies and monthly stipends, and reverts to a quota-based model with minimal enforcement mechanisms.
Bennett laid out a four-point critique:
“Bottom line: This law will further deter ultra-Orthodox conscription and block their entry into the labor market,” Bennett warned. “The task now is clear: everything must be done to prevent this bad law from passing.”
The government has yet to formally respond to Bennett’s remarks.
