A Deadly Plot Stopped Just in Time

Shocking details of planned Carmiel massacre exposed as terror suspects indicted

Two Arab men have been charged with plotting a horrific terror attack to ram Jewish civilians in Carmiel, a massacre only prevented by the bravery of a friend who spoke out. Prosecutors say the foiled plan, fueled by tensions over Gaza, could have led to mass bloodshed if not stopped in time.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has filed serious terrorism charges against two Arab men accused of plotting a deadly vehicular attack targeting Jewish civilians in Carmiel. On Thursday, prosecutors submitted an indictment to the Haifa District Court against Abed Rahman Omar, 29, and Nahar Asadi, 22, both residents of Deir al-Asad, detailing their alleged plan to carry out a deadly terror attack that could have ended in mass-casualties.

According to the indictment, prepared by Attorney Mor Ben Abu of the Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects conspired to launch a terror assault amid heightened tensions over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The court documents reveal that the two met with a group of friends near Omar’s grandfather’s house in Deir al-Asad. During their gathering, conversation turned to recent events in Gaza, at which point Omar proposed orchestrating an attack in Carmiel.

The two suspects allegedly discussed ramming an armored vehicle into Jewish civilians, with a further intention to carry out additional assaults using firearms or bladed weapons if the opportunity arose. The plot was aimed at inflicting mass casualties, according to the prosecution.

While Asadi agreed to Omar’s plan, the scheme was thwarted when one of the friends present grew alarmed by the gravity of their discussion. The concerned individual left the meeting and informed his father, who in turn alerted the suspects’ families, thereby preventing the attack before it could be set in motion.

The Prosecutor’s Office has formally requested that both Omar and Asadi remain in custody until the completion of legal proceedings, citing the severity of the charges and the danger they pose to the public.

The indictment underscores the vigilance of community members in helping prevent potential terror attacks and highlights the authorities’ continued efforts to neutralize domestic threats linked to regional tensions.
