A heartbreaking scene unfolded Wednesday at the Western Wall, where a woman in her 60s was found dead while seated in the women’s section—her head reportedly resting on an open Book of Psalms (Tehillim).

According to initial reports, the woman, known to frequent the holy site and occasionally ask for charity, had been lifeless for several hours before someone noticed.

Emergency responders confirmed her death at the scene.

“It was shocking,” said one witness. “She was just sitting there quietly, like she always did. No one realized until much later.”

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation confirmed the woman was unhoused and sometimes stayed in the Old City area. In a statement, the foundation expressed “deep sorrow over the tragic event” and extended condolences to her family.
