Hope for the hostages? What Sinwar’s death could mean for their freedom
Mohammad Sinwar was the most militant Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, rejecting anything short of a complete end to the war. His death might lead to a deal that requires less than that.

Some analysts and reporters are saying that if Hamas military leader Mohammad Sinwar was indeed eliminated in the Khan Yunis strike today (Tuesday), then the way might be opened to a deal which frees half of the living hostages without ending the war.
According to an i24 News report on Sunday, Hamas Shura Council Chairman Mohammad Darwish favored a ceasefire of two months in exchange for 10 hostages, while Sinwar would settle for nothing less than a complete ceasefire. Sinwar's removal may thus open the way to a deal that imposes a temporary ceasefire in exchange for more hostages, instead of complete capitulation to Hamas' demands.
