The Israel Defense Forces have cleared for publication the identity of a fallen soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during the expanding ground war in southern Lebanon. Sergeant Aviaad Elchanan Volansky, a 21-year-old resident of Jerusalem, was killed in action during a fierce battle against Hezbollah terrorists. Volansky served in the 77th Battalion of the 7th "Saar mi-Golan" Armored Brigade, a unit that has been at the forefront of the efforts to dismantle terror infrastructure along the northern border. His death brings the heavy toll of the current war home to the capital, as the nation mourns another young life lost in the defense of its citizens.

Sacrifice in the North

The incident that claimed the life of Sergeant Volansky occurred on Wednesday, March 26, 2026, corresponding to the 8th of Nisan, 5786. During the same engagement, two officers and two other soldiers from the 77th Battalion were wounded. Fortunately, their injuries were described as light, and they were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. The families of all the soldiers involved have been notified by the military. Volansky’s unit, part of the legendary 7th Brigade, has been instrumental in the recent push to clear high-priority targets and establish a secure buffer zone to protect the residents of northern Israel from direct fire.

The IDF released a statement expressing deep sorrow and promising to continue accompanying the Volansky family through their grief. "The IDF shares in the family's mourning and will continue to support them," the military stated. As the ground maneuver in Lebanon intensifies with the entry of additional divisions, the loss of Sergeant Volansky serves as a somber reminder of the immense risks faced by the young men and women on the front lines. His dedication to the mission of removing the Hezbollah threat remains an inspiration to his comrades, who continue to push forward in the difficult terrain of southern Lebanon to ensure the safety of the Israeli home front.
