Energy crisis on horizon?
After Iran strike, Israel prepares to shut two of its gas rigs
Energy Minister Cohen to declare emergency and activate national gas market regulations

Due to the situation following the Israeli attack on Iran and in accordance with security assessments, the Minister of Energy, Eli Cohen, will be able, in accordance with his authority, to order a temporary halt to some natural gas reserves, and the energy needs of the economy will be supplied from other sources and through alternative fuels, as needed.
The electricity sector is preparing to operate the stations using alternative fuels as necessary. At the same time, due to the security situation, the minister is expected to declare a state of emergency in the natural gas sector, thereby activating the regulations of the natural gas sector.
The regulations allow the minister, among other things, after consulting with the head of the Natural Gas Authority and the chairman of the Electricity Authority, to order the allocation of natural gas to consumers, where a shortage of natural gas adversely affects the regular operation of the economy or the regular supply of electricity.
The security division of the Ministry opened the situation room in Jerusalem early in the morning, in order to continue to ensure that the supply continuity is maintained in the energy sector. The minister thanked all the employees of all energy and water organizations - NOGA, the Electricity Authority, the Electric Company, the Water Authority, Mekorot, NTAZ, TASHAA, EAPC, and the ministry staff from the security division, the Natural Gas Authority, the Fuel and Gas Administration, the Natural Resources Administration, the Sustainable Energy Division, the National Security Bureau, and the Spokesperson's Unit - who are working to ensure the continuous supply of energy and water to the citizens of Israel.
