Israel Rainfall Forecast: Unusually Wet Season Expected

As autumn approaches, Israel's Meteorological Service is delivering welcome news: long-range forecasting models consistently indicate an unusually wet start to the upcoming rainy season across Israel and the broader Middle East region.

According to current data, which includes the Meteorological Service's artificial intelligence model, each of the next three months, October, November, and December, is expected to receive above-average precipitation. October stands out as the most exceptional month in the forecast, with rainfall amounts predicted to reach twice the seasonal average.

Meteorological officials are cautioning that October rains typically feature high intensity and variable spatial distribution, significantly increasing the likelihood of flooding in coastal cities and flash floods in southern and eastern streambeds. A similar season opening was recorded in autumn 2015, during a strong El Niño year, though current model predictions indicate substantially higher rainfall levels compared to that period.

In light of the forecast for extreme weather events, the Meteorological Service held an early preparedness meeting today with government ministries, emergency and rescue services, and the National Security Council. The session presented reference scenarios, seasonal forecasts, and new tools for predicting and warning of floods, flash floods, and snow, aimed at reducing risks to human life and infrastructure ahead of the coming winter.
