Anat Angrest, the mother of kidnapped Israeli soldier Matan Angrest, announced the release of additional footage today showing the brutal abduction of her 22-year-old son by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023. “For 611 days, I couldn’t bring myself to watch the full video capturing the start of the lynching of my beloved Matan dozens of terrorists against one soldier,” Anat said. “Last night, I forced myself to view it for the first time. We’re left with no choice. Matan’s life is in grave danger, and we must share another segment of this video with the public tonight, though we desperately wish we didn’t have to.”

The footage, described as harrowing, depicts Matan being forcibly dragged from a tank at the Nahal Oz military base, beaten, and interrogated by a mob of Hamas gunmen. Anat revealed that recent efforts to uncover Matan’s condition exposed a shocking discrepancy. “In recent weeks, we sought to understand Matan’s medical state through meetings with former hostages who saw him,” she explained. “We discovered a vast gap between what we were told and the reality of Matan’s severe condition. While the Prime Minister was unaware Matan was even injured, we learned he suffers from open burns, infections, inflammations, and fever, alongside clear evidence of torture and electric shocks.”

Anat emphasized the urgency, stating, “We have no option but to show the public these horrific images of the lynching Matan endured on October 7, a story of his severe injuries forgotten simply because he’s a soldier. This title, which should bring pride, has sidelined Matan, denying him the ‘humanitarian’ label. Matan is in mortal danger, wounded and bleeding. We cannot abandon him again. We’re sorry, Matan. Don’t give up, because we won’t give up on you.”

The family’s decision follows a March 2025 Hamas propaganda video showing Matan, visibly broken, with a non-functional hand and facial injuries. Israel’s ongoing war, which has killed over 43,000 in Gaza, continues to complicate negotiations for the 55 remaining hostages.
