This evening, a Jewish boy was hospitalized following a racially motivated assault and robbery at Hampstead Underground station in north-west London, as reported by the Jewish security charity Shomrim. The British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating the incident as a “racially aggravated assault and robbery,” which occurred around 8:30 p.m. during a bank holiday. Three Jewish boys were attacked by a group of six to seven men at the station, located in one of the UK’s most Jewish neighbourhoods, where 11% of the Hampstead ward identified as Jewish in the 2021 census, per The Independent.

Shomrim, which specializes in supporting victims of anti-Semitic crimes, responded to the scene and is assisting the victims. One boy was admitted to a hospital for observation, though specific details about injuries remain undisclosed.

The charity issued a statement on Tuesday, appealing for witnesses and urging anyone with information to contact them at 0300 999 1234, quoting reference NW209 - 26 May 2025, or to reach out to BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 596 of 26 May. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. Shomrim emphasized its commitment to handling reports with “sensitivity and urgency” and encouraged those affected by antisemitism to seek support.

The assault has heightened concerns about rising anti-Semitic incidents in the UK, which have surged since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. The Community Security Trust (CST) recorded 5,583 anti-Semitic incidents in 2024, a 103% increase from 2023, with London as a focal point. Hampstead’s Jewish community, known for its vibrant cultural institutions, has faced prior incidents, including vandalism at synagogues. The BTP’s ongoing inquiries aim to identify the suspects, with no arrests reported yet. This incident underscores the need for vigilance in areas with significant Jewish populations, as authorities and community organizations work to ensure safety.
