Direct Hit in Karmiel: Rescue Teams Search for Trapped Civilians After Massive Barrage
Hezbollah has launched a massive rocket and drone attack across Northern Israel, resulting in a direct hit on a home in Karmiel and multiple fires caused by falling debris.
Northern Israel has been plunged into a state of high alert following a coordinated and heavy assault by the Hezbollah terrorist organization. The attack, which included dozens of rockets and a series of explosive drones, stretched from the Golan Heights all the way to Caesarea, forcing millions of residents into bomb shelters. While Israel’s air defense systems worked to intercept the majority of the threats, a direct hit was reported on a residential home in the city of Karmiel, and falling shrapnel ignited fires on major transportation routes. This escalation comes exactly as military intelligence predicted, marking one of the most widespread barrages since the current war began.
Destruction in Karmiel and Beyond
The city of Karmiel bore the brunt of the most recent rocket salvo, with local authorities confirming that a missile struck a private residence. The impact caused significant structural damage, and firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to conduct a search for any trapped individuals among the rubble. Reports from the scene indicate that at least one person was evacuated with light injuries, though the search for others continues. The Karmiel Municipality released footage showing the extent of the destruction to the building, which was hit during a wave of launches that targeted several northern hubs simultaneously.
In addition to the direct hit in Karmiel, the fallout from the interceptions caused chaos on the ground. Shrapnel from intercepted missiles fell onto Highway 6, one of Israel’s main arterial roads, sparking a brush fire that required emergency intervention to prevent it from spreading to nearby vehicles. Other fragments caused minor damage to buildings in various northern communities. The IDF noted that while many rockets were intercepted, some were allowed to fall in open areas in accordance with interception policy, though the sheer volume of fire created a significant threat to the home front.
The Drone Pursuit and Retaliation
Parallel to the rocket fire, a swarm of "hostile aircraft," or explosive drones, crossed from Lebanon into the Western Galilee. This led to a tense 20 minute pursuit by the Israeli Air Force and air defense units across the northern skies. The IDF eventually confirmed that five drones were successfully shot down before they could reach their intended targets. The military stated that "Hezbollah launched rockets toward several areas in the territory of the State of Israel" and warned that the threat is ongoing.
In immediate retaliation for the strikes, the Israeli Air Force began a series of intensive raids across Lebanon. "At the same time as the interception efforts, the Air Force is now attacking launchers and other infrastructures of the Hezbollah terrorist organization throughout Lebanon," the IDF spokesperson announced. The military emphasized that residents must continue to strictly follow the life-saving instructions of the Home Front Command, as the assessment remains that Hezbollah is still prepared for further, heavy launches throughout the evening.
