Comments made by Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, about opposition leader Yair Golan have drawn sharp criticism from several prominent Israeli journalists, who rejected her claims regarding his activities on October 7 as conspiracy theories.
Journalist Akiva Novick went so far as to offer financial support for a potential lawsuit by Golan against the prime minister's wife. "If Yair Golan raises money for a multi-million lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, I will gladly participate," he wrote on social media.
"I am embarrassed and ashamed that she allows herself to slander someone who ran to save Jews from massacre. Shame on all of us," Novick added.
Reporter Avishai Grinzweig also criticized the statements, noting that while there are many legitimate grounds to criticize Golan, his actions on the day of the Hamas massacre are not among them. "You can criticize Yair Golan for 7,000 things. Legitimate, justified, even harsh criticism," he wrote. But choosing to attack Golan specifically for going to the Gaza border communities and suggesting he had advance knowledge of the attack constitutes a "delusional and false conspiracy theory." He added: "The prime minister's wife does not have immunity."
