The IDF said that it eliminated Ayesh Salama al-Hashash, the rocket unit commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Rafah, in a targeted air strike in the humanitarian zone of the Gaza Strip.

According to the IDF, al-Hashash served as a major source of knowledge regarding rocket use and was responsible for managing and firing rockets into Israel from his hiding place.

The IDF said that multiple steps were taken to reduce the likelihood of civilian casualties including the use of precise munitions, overflights, and additional intelligence information.

The IDF noted that terrorist organizations continue to violate international law by concealing themselves and operating in places such as the humanitarian zone, but that it would pursue terrorists with determination nevertheless.
