Knesset, Deportation of Terrorists

Knesset set to debate controversial bill aimed at deporting terrorist families

The legislation would allow the Interior Minister to deport families without judicial oversight, but faces opposition from legal advisers.

The Knesset committee is expected to convene on Tuesday to discuss a bill that seeks to allow the deportation of families of terrorists.

The proposal, led by Coalition Chairman Ofir Katz together with MK Almog Cohen and other Knesset members, will be submitted for second and third reading.

According to the proposal, the interior minister would be given the authority to order the deportation of a terrorist's family members, without the need for additional approval from a judicial body. This step arouses legal opposition, with the legal counsel of the government and the Knesset expected to express their opposition to the current version of the law.

The debate on the bill takes place against the backdrop of the wave of terrorist attacks that have hit Israel in recent weeks, and reflects the Knesset members' attempt to find additional deterrent solutions in the fight against terrorism.
