Day of Rage Erupts in Greece: Over 40 Anti-Israel Protests Expected Across the Country

Mass anti-Israel demonstrations unfold across Greece as "Day of Rage" protests target tourist areas. Israeli Foreign Ministry issues safety guidelines for travelers.

Anti-Israel protest in Greece

A wave of anti-Israel demonstrations dubbed “Day of Rage” kicked off this morning in Greece, with small-scale gatherings already reported in locations including Syros, Hydra, Meteora, the island of Patmos, and the coastal town of Nafpaktos. So far, the protests have been limited in size, with no major disruptions reported, though organizers’ Instagram accounts are tracking developments in real time.

The events, announced by local left-wing movements and the BDS organization, are framed as a “National Day of Action Against Genocide” and strategically timed to target areas with a heavy Israeli tourist presence during peak summer travel season.

Initially, around 25 protest sites were expected, but authorities now estimate more than 40 locations, including key islands such as Rhodes, Kos, Crete, Samothraki, Andros, Lesbos, Tilos, Amorgos, and Sifnos, as well as mainland cities like Olympia, Kiato, Edessa, and Preveza. Greek police and security forces have been reinforced nationwide.

In light of the protests, Israel’s Foreign Ministry has issued updated safety guidelines for Israelis in Greece:

  • Avoid protest areas and large gatherings.
  • Refrain from political debates or public political expressions.
  • Conceal visible Israeli identifiers (such as flags, Hebrew writing, or IDF symbols).
  • Stay alert in crowded public spaces, including tourist sites, sports events, and public transport.
  • Maintain regular contact with family in Israel and update them on your whereabouts.
