Defense Budget Clash

Likud Attacks Lapid on Defense Budget: Abandoning Israel's Security

Likud insists defense spending can rise without tax hikes, accuses opposition leader of cheap political considerations

Likud launched a blistering attack on opposition leader Yair Lapid, accusing him of misleading the public over defense budget increases and their impact on Israeli taxpayers. The party insisted that defense spending can be expanded without any tax increases.

"Lapid is misleading the public about the defense budget," Likud said in a statement, dismissing the opposition leader's claims as "false and baseless."

The party pointed to state revenue figures and deficit data to support its position. "State revenues have exceeded projections thanks to the government's economic policy, and as a result the deficit is lower than expected," Likud explained. "Under these circumstances, the defense budget can be increased without any tax hikes whatsoever."

Likud also rejected Lapid's assertions regarding coalition funds and budgets allocated to the haredi sector, claiming the sums he cited simply don't exist.

"The argument about coalition funds and haredi sector budgets is equally false," Likud stated. "There have never been such amounts for coalition funds or the haredi sector, not even close."

The party didn't stop at rebutting Lapid's economic arguments, escalating to a personal and political offensive against the opposition leader. Likud tied Lapid's budget stance to national security, charging that political motives drive his position.

"Lapid is abandoning the security of the State of Israel because of cheap political considerations," the party declared.
