WWII Machine Gun Seized Aimed at IDF Base in Gush Etzion

Israeli police conducted a series of raids across Judea and Samaria this week targeting illegal weapons, seizing numerous firearms, large quantities of ammunition, and weapon components in multiple operations.

In the most striking discovery, detectives from the Hebron station, acting on intelligence about recent "weapons testing," raided a residential building in the Palestinian city of Hebron alongside Border Police fighters. During a comprehensive search, they discovered a rare MG-34 heavy machine gun positioned on the building's roof.

The weapon is a Nazi-era machine gun that served as standard equipment for German infantry units during World War II, familiar from films depicting the war where it was used to mow down soldiers assaulting German positions.

Police officials stated that 100 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were found alongside the machine gun, but claimed the weapon was used in local clan conflicts rather than for terrorist purposes.

In a separate operation, detectives from the Etzion station working with IDF Etzion Brigade soldiers conducted a precision raid in the Palestinian village of Beit Umar, where they located an illegally held Carlo submachine gun. Forces seized the weapon and arrested a suspect in his 30s, a local resident, who was transferred for further investigation at the police station.

Last night, during a search in the Palestinian village of Fasayil, a hunting rifle that had been hidden and concealed was discovered. The weapon was seized and transferred for investigative and forensic processing to identify and arrest the suspects involved.

Also last night, thanks to precise intelligence from officers at the Benjamin station in the Samaria district working with Border Police Jerusalem envelope fighters, a search was conducted at a residence in the Shuafat refugee camp. The operation uncovered 5.56mm ammunition and M16 weapon parts including receivers, assemblies, grips and magazines, along with a ceramic vest.

Following these findings, forces arrested an Arab Israeli suspect in his 20s on suspicion of illegally possessing combat equipment. He was transferred for police interrogation and will subsequently be brought before court for an extension of his detention.
