Hospital Patient Leaves Ichilov for Selichot
A moving moment unfolded this week outside the walls of Ichilov Hospital when a patient who had been hospitalized for an extended period was able to attend Selichot prayers at Yeshivat Maaleh Eliyahu.
A., who has spent recent weeks in the respiratory rehabilitation unit, developed a special bond during his hospitalization with students from Yeshivat Maaleh Eliyahu. The yeshiva students come to the hospital every Shabbat to conduct Kiddush for patients. One student maintained contact with him throughout the period, and at a certain point suggested he join the Selichot prayers at the yeshiva.
Despite his complex medical condition, which required close supervision and medical equipment, the treatment team decided not to give up on the request. Together with an MDA team from the "Ambulance of Wishes," yeshiva students and rabbis, and the medical staff, they built a plan that would allow A. to safely leave the hospital and reach the prayers.
This week it happened: A. arrived at the yeshiva together with his mother and the medical team, participated in the Selichot prayers, and received a warm and emotional welcome.
For the family members and teams who accompanied him, this was far more than a brief outing from the hospital—it was a moment of strength and faith during a difficult hospitalization period.
A.'s mother later shared that the emotion was overwhelming, and thanked everyone who mobilized to make the meeting possible. The student who accompanied A. throughout the period also said he was moved to see how the hospital and yeshiva worked together to fulfill his request.
