Winter driving regulations

Winter headlight rule begins today

Transportation Ministry announces mandatory daytime headlights on intercity roads from today through March 31, 2027, with additional requirements for buses, taxis and heavy trucks

Intercity road

The Transportation Ministry announced today (Sunday) that all drivers must travel with headlights on when driving on intercity roads, even during daylight hours, from today through March 31, 2027.

The daytime headlight requirement on intercity roads applies to private vehicles, alongside additional obligations for specific vehicle types. Buses, taxis, and trucks with a total permissible weight exceeding 15 tons must keep their lights on even on urban roads throughout the entire winter period.

"Driving with headlights on improves vehicle visibility to other road users and helps drivers notice vehicles approaching them, especially in changing visibility conditions and during the winter season," the Transportation and Road Safety Ministry said.
