Rav Avraham Stav addressed the election results on Sunday and the possibility that Israel may head to repeat elections.
He responded to arguments circulating on social media from those claiming that a unity government already exists in the willingness of left-wing figures to sit alongside right-wing ones. "A unity government is already inherent in the very readiness of deep-left women like Lazimi and Lasky to sit alongside a conservative capitalist like Bennett and Eisenkot's moderate religious slate," one commenter wrote.
She continued: "This is already an enormous ideological compromise in which each partner is required to swallow quite a few frogs, and they are doing it for the sake of this country. Whoever demands adding Netanyahu's personality-cult clientelist party to this mix is ignoring the marginal cost of his inclusion.
"Ra'am and the chareidim will exact a heavy price, but on budgets and arrangements one can negotiate and reach compromises. Netanyahu's price touches the core of the regime, a state commission of inquiry, the independence of the gatekeepers, the overhaul laws, and of course his continued and destructive presence (his, his family's, and his agents') in the leadership of this country.
"In other words, the compensation that the change bloc would be required to give him is a surrender of the very repair for which this bloc was formed in the first place. Therefore, in my opinion, a unity government with Netanyahu is an extreme option that should be avoided, including at the cost of additional elections."
