Air India Flight 171, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, at approximately 2:07 PM IST (11:37 AM IDT). The aircraft went down in a residential area near the airport, in Ghoda Camp, IGB Compound, Meghaninagar.

The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (registration VT-ANB) and it was only 11.5 years old.

The incident follows unrelated aviation and military events in India, including military jet crashes in Kashmir and Punjab amid India-Pakistan tensions.

Emergency operations are underway at the crash site, with Gujarat Samachar and News18 reporting active response efforts.
