US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) issued a stark warning to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during a Fox News interview on January 6, 2026, stating that if the Iranian regime continues its violent crackdown on protesters, President Donald Trump would order Khamenei's assassination.

Graham emphasized, "To the Ayatollahs: you need to understand, if you keep killing your people who are demanding a better life, Donald J. Trump is going to kill you."

The comments come amid escalating nationwide protests in Iran, now in their 11th day, driven by economic hardships and demands for regime change.

Reports indicate at least 34 protesters have been killed by security forces, with over 2,000 arrests and unrest spreading to 92 cities, including chants of "Death to Khamenei" in areas like Abdanan.

Iranian protesters have directly appealed to Trump for protection, with videos showing pleas like "Don't let them kill us."

Graham referenced the recent US raid that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as a "prime example" of American resolve, urging Iran's leadership to "take Trump seriously."

Trump has repeatedly threatened forceful US intervention, including statements that Iran would be "hit very hard" if it kills demonstrators, and posed with a "Make Iran Great Again" hat shared by Graham.

Iranian state media and officials have condemned the US actions in Venezuela, while some within Iran express fears that similar operations could target top leaders like Khamenei.

Opposition figures are calling for coordinated nationwide protests, as tensions in the region remain high with no official response from Tehran to Graham's remarks (except for putting snipers on roofs to shoot more protesters).
