An Iranian drone slammed into Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait overnight, wounding 15 U.S. military personnel, two senior American officials confirmed to CBS News.

Most of the injuries were minor, and the majority of those hurt have already returned to duty, one of the officials said.

The base, a key U.S. air operations hub located about 23 miles from the Iraq border, has been a critical launch point for American forces throughout the three-month-old conflict with Iran. This is the second major Iranian attack on the facility. In early March, a previous strike killed six Americans and injured dozens more.

The Pentagon has not yet issued an official statement on the latest incident.

No further details on the drone’s origin or exact damage to the base were immediately released.
