Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the controversial former president of Iran who served from 2005 to 2013, was killed in joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran yesterday, according to multiple reports and updates from Israeli media and eyewitness accounts.

Ahmadinejad, aged 69, died from an assassination by airstrike.

His residence was reportedly destroyed in the attacks, with footage showing extensive damage near the site.

The strikes targeted a building in Tehran used by Ahmadinejad's security team, resulting in the deaths of at least three members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from his former detail.

Iranian state media has not officially confirmed Ahmadinejad's death, but rumors and reports of his demise circulated immediately after the initial wave of attacks, which also claimed the life of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials.

Prior denials of similar rumors in 2025, such as claims of his death in an assassination attempt or helicopter crash, were issued by his office, but no such statement has emerged following the recent events.

Ahmadinejad, known for his hardline stance against Israel and the West, including inflammatory statements on the Holocaust and calls for Israel's elimination, had been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli policies during his presidency.

His death comes amid escalating regional conflict, with Iran launching retaliatory missiles and drones at Gulf states, Israel, and even toward Cyprus, leading to widespread disruptions and casualties.
