Robert Francis Prevost is new Pope, will take the name Pope Leo

The American educated cardinal has been chosen by 133 electors in the Papal conclave.

Robert Francis Prevost, an American born and educated cardinal from Peru, has been chosen as the new Pope by 133 Cardinals. He will take on the name Pope Leo XIV.

Prevost will be the first Pope to have been born and raised in the United States of America, with his predecessor Pope Francis having been the first Pope chosen from the Western Hemisphere.
