OpenAI Unleashes GPT 5.5 Worldwide
OpenAI announced the release of its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.5, saying it is designed to better understand complex or unclear prompts and carry out multi-step tasks with minimal user guidance.

OpenAI announced the release of its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.5, saying it is designed to better understand complex or unclear prompts and carry out multi-step tasks with minimal user guidance.
According to the company, the new model can plan workflows, use external tools, verify its own outputs and navigate ambiguous instructions more effectively than previous versions. It is positioned as a step toward more autonomous, “agent-like” computing.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman described GPT-5.5 as “a new level of intelligence,” saying it can interpret unclear problems and determine the necessary steps to complete them. He added that the model reflects how users are expected to interact with computers in the future, with less need for detailed, step-by-step instructions.
The model is designed for a range of applications, including writing, debugging code, conducting online research, analyzing data and generating documents or spreadsheets. OpenAI also said GPT-5.5 uses fewer tokens to complete similar tasks, improving efficiency for developers and users of its Codex coding tool.
The release comes roughly six weeks after the launch of GPT-5.4, highlighting the rapid pace of development in the AI sector. OpenAI is also facing increased competition from rival firms, including Anthropic, which recently introduced an updated version of its Claude model.
In terms of safety, OpenAI said GPT-5.5 underwent extensive testing and meets the criteria for a “high” cybersecurity risk classification, meaning it could amplify existing threats, though it does not reach the company’s highest risk threshold.
GPT-5.5 is being rolled out to paid ChatGPT users, including Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers, as well as through the Codex platform.
