An Iran-linked Islamist group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (also known as Ashab al-Yamin or HAYI) has claimed responsibility for an attempted firebomb attack on Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, north-west London, overnight on Saturday, April 18–19, 2026.

According to the Community Security Trust (CST), a black-clad individual was captured on footage throwing a device through a window into the synagogue building. The incident caused minor smoke damage to an internal room but resulted in no injuries and no significant structural damage.

No one was inside the synagogue at the time of the attack, and emergency services responded quickly.

This is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Jewish sites in north London in recent days. It comes amid a broader wave of attacks the group has claimed since March 2026, including incidents in Finchley and on Jewish community ambulances.

Metropolitan Police officers were seen searching the area on Sunday morning, including a black SUV near the synagogue, which is located close to a school and children’s playground.

The CST described the attack as another serious incident amid heightened concerns over antisemitism in the UK. Police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the group’s claim or made any arrests in connection with this specific incident.

This remains a developing story. Authorities are treating it as a suspected hate crime, and counter-terrorism police continue to investigate the recent surge in attacks on Jewish targets in the capital.
