Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump to address the ongoing war in Iran along with other global matters. The Kremlin described the discussion as frank and businesslike, lasting about an hour.

According to Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, Putin voiced several ideas aimed at achieving a quick political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict. These proposals followed Putin's recent talks with Gulf leaders and Iranian officials. The call marks the first between the two leaders this year and comes as joint US-Israeli strikes under Operation Epic Fury continue to target Iranian military, nuclear remnants, and proxy support networks.

Russia has maintained ties with Iran, condemning the initial strikes that killed former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as violations of international norms while offering condolences and reaffirming partnership with Tehran. Putin's outreach reflects Moscow's interest in de-escalation to protect regional stability, energy markets, and its own strategic position amid broader tensions. No immediate details emerged on Trump's response or any agreed steps, but the conversation highlights efforts by major powers to influence the war's trajectory as operations enter their second week with significant degradation to Iranian forces reported.
