An Austrian Airlines flight that left Ben Gurion Airport for Vienna on Sunday night was diverted to Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, after an anonymous bomb threat. Israel's public broadcaster Kan reported that the plane is currently being scanned in Sofia.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Austrian authorities had received a phone call from Vienna about a suspicious object aboard the aircraft. After the call, the flight was ordered to divert.
Arutz Sheva reported that an emergency code was activated during the flight, and that passengers were told an "anonymous bomb threat against the aircraft" had been received. The plane then left its route and landed at Sofia Airport.
No explosive device has been confirmed. It is not yet clear what triggered the alert or whether the passengers were ever in danger, and the circumstances are under investigation, Arutz Sheva added.
Last week, a Delta Air Lines plane arriving at Ben Gurion from the US was moved to a remote parking stand after an anonymous report that a bomb had been planted on board. All passengers disembarked safely, security personnel searched the aircraft, nothing suspicious was found, and the airport returned to routine operations.
