Kylian Mbappé was among 26 people an 18-year-old man and his associates allegedly identified as potential kidnapping targets, according to a report by Le Parisien published Wednesday. The suspect, identified as Clément L. and operating under the Snapchat alias "Lester Z," was formally charged on August 21 in Nanterre with organized gang robbery.
Investigators linked him to multiple home invasions and kidnapping plots, with some operations already carried out and others still in the planning stage. The Real Madrid forward's name appeared on a list discovered in phones seized from the suspect's cell, alongside wealthy business owners and figures from the rap world.
The Investigation
The investigation began following an attack on a watchmaker in Neuilly-sur-Seine in April, which authorities subsequently linked to a broader criminal network planning additional kidnappings and robberies across multiple regions of France.
Authorities believe the group conducted or prepared operations between April 11 and August 19 in towns including Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, and Santenay.
Current Status
The alleged ringleader remains in solitary confinement and in pretrial detention. An accomplice was released under judicial supervision. There is no public report of an actual kidnapping attempt against Mbappé—only evidence of planning.
Mbappé has not issued a public statement regarding the alleged plot.w
