Morgan Ortagus: US Envoy to the Middle East

Morgan Ortagus is a former US State Department spokesperson who now serves as the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, focusing on regional diplomacy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Morgan Ortagus is an American diplomat and political advisor who currently holds the position of US Special Envoy to the Middle East. She was appointed to this role in 2023 by President Joe Biden, replacing Amos Hochstein.

Ortagus has gained prominence for her vocal support of Israel and her assertive approach to regional diplomacy. As the US Envoy, she has been actively involved in negotiations related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the situation in Lebanon, and broader regional issues.

In recent months, Ortagus has engaged with Israeli officials, including Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, to discuss Israel's perspectives on regional developments. She has also delivered tough messages to the Lebanese government regarding the influence of Hezbollah and the need for reforms.

Ortagus's visit to Beirut in 2023 sparked tensions with Hezbollah supporters due to her perceived pro-Israel stance and the jewelry she wore, which was seen as provocative by some Lebanese factions.

Prior to her current role, Ortagus served as the spokesperson for the US State Department during the Trump administration. She was known for her strong defense of US foreign policy positions and her willingness to engage in public debates on international affairs.

Ortagus's appointment as the US Envoy to the Middle East has been welcomed by many who view her as a bold voice in diplomacy and a staunch supporter of Israel. However, her assertive approach has also drawn criticism from those who perceive her as being overly partisan or inflexible in her positions.
