A kitten trapped inside a drainage pipe in Utah was rescued using a small remote-controlled device normally used for inspecting underground pipes.
The incident took place in West Valley City after the public works department received a report about the stuck kitten. Crew members located it using a camera lowered into the pipe, but their attempts to lure it out were unsuccessful.
The rescue team then brought in a special tracked vehicle called R2D2, equipped with a camera that transmits live video and lighting. The device was inserted into the pipe and advanced toward the kitten, eventually managing to gently push it out, straight into the hands of one of the crew members.
City officials noted with humor that the device, which is typically used for pipe inspections, can now add kitten rescue to its list of duties. According to the report, the kitten appeared uninjured after being safely extracted.
