Brooklyn

Four buses that transport students to talmudei Torah in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, were vandalized overnight Monday with swastikas and antisemitic graffiti, sending shockwaves through the chareidi community.

The vandals struck in the early morning hours, spray-painting Nazi symbols and anti-Israel slogans across the vehicles, which serve yeshiva students in the area.

Police were called to the scene immediately after the vandalism was discovered. The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit opened an investigation, collecting evidence and reviewing security camera footage from the surrounding area. No arrests have been made as of this writing.

Officials Condemn Attack

The incident drew swift condemnation from New York State and city officials.

Governor Kathy Hochul responded: "As a mother and grandmother, the thought of children arriving at school in the morning to find their buses covered in swastikas and hateful messages fills me with dread. No Jewish child and no family should have to live under fear and threats."

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the act "abhorrent" and said: "Every New Yorker, and especially our children, deserves the right to live in safety and without hatred. My team is in constant contact with the NYPD and community leaders."

Mamdani added that the city would deploy all available resources to combat antisemitism and ensure there is no place for hatred in New York. State Attorney General Letitia James condemned the "despicable" act and urged the public to pass any information that could help investigators catch those responsible.

City Council Member Lincoln Restler, who represents the neighborhood, joined the outcry: "These messages are shocking and particularly repugnant. We must put an end to the surge in antisemitic incidents, which has continued for over a decade."
