Elazar ben Hodaya, one year old, was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem after being stung by a yellow scorpion at his home in Moshav Metzad

An infant was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem on Monday night after being stung by a yellow scorpion at his home in the chareidi community of Metzad in Gush Etzion.

Magen David Adom said the baby, about a year old, was evacuated in moderate condition with signs of a scorpion sting. Some reports described his condition as serious.

Yoni Findros and Chaim Silver, volunteers with MDA’s Tzevet Hatzala unit, said they found the infant in a state of reduced consciousness, struggling to breathe and showing signs of a severe allergic reaction. “Together with additional MDA medics and paramedics, we provided him with initial medical assistance, including an EpiPen injection and oxygen,” they said. He was then transferred to an MDA intensive care ambulance.

Eitan Saar, an Ichud Hatzalah medic who administered the adrenaline, said: “We were told at the scene that he had been stung by a scorpion and as a result developed a severe allergic reaction that endangered his life. I provided him with life-saving medical treatment using an adrenaline syringe. He was then evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in moderate and stable condition.”

The family has asked for people to daven for Elazar ben Hodaya's recovery, among all the sick of Israel.

Yellow scorpion stings can be especially dangerous for young children because of their low body weight. In severe cases, the venom can cause breathing difficulties, heart rhythm disturbances and damage to the nervous system. Anyone who is stung should seek immediate medical attention.
