Internal revolt in opposition bloc

Eisenkot MKs reject Arab party backing

Members of Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar! faction tell him in closed-door talks they will not support a coalition or minority government that relies on the Joint List

Gadi Eisenkot

Internal cracks are opening in the opposition bloc as the political deadlock drags on: members of Knesset in Gadi Eisenkot's party are voicing sharp opposition to any scenario that involves forming a minority government or working with the backing of the Joint List.

Channel 13 political correspondent Moriah Asraf Wolberg reported that during a recent faction meeting and in closed conversations over the past few days, several MKs from Eisenkot's faction made clear that for them, this is a red line.

"Don't count us in on this"

According to the report, the correspondent said that “quite a few people there, not just one or two, are saying unequivocally: if it involves the Joint List, count us out.”

They added that relying on a party whose members have expressed support for acts of terror or called the fighting in Gaza a "war of extermination" constitutes a breach of promises made to voters.

Sources in the Yashar! said people are frustrated by the lack of clarity around Eisenkot's moves and the expectation that he would join with the Arab factions. At the same time, they clarified that the refusal to rely on the Joint List does not indicate an intention to cross over to Netanyahu's camp, but a readiness to stand by commitments made to voters.
