Economist: Tel Aviv No Longer Most Expensive City to Live In

Tel Aviv, previously ranked at the top of the list of most expensive cities, now ranks eighth. The effects of the war may change this in both directions.

In 2021, Tel Aviv made history by being ranked as the world's most expensive city to live in. By next year, it had dropped to third, and it has now dropped again to just eighth.

In 2021, Tel Aviv made history by being ranked as the world's most expensive city to live in, cementing its status among leading cities in the world. Now, in 2023, it is ranked just eighth in terms of the cost of goods and services there, according to an analysis by the Economist and Ynet.

These estimates and rankings were done before October 7 and the war in Gaza, but experts say the effects could go into either direction - a drop in prices due to reduced spending and consumption, or a rise in basic prices for things such as energy, or maybe even both.
