Three individuals, including an IDF soldier serving at a military base in northern Israel and two civilians, have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a serious case of trafficking military weapons, authorities announced Thursday after a gag order was lifted.
The arrests were carried out as part of an investigation led by the Central Unit of the Coastal District, in cooperation with the Northern Unit of the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division. All three suspects were taken in for questioning. Following initial findings, the two civilians were brought before the Haifa Magistrate's Court with a request to extend their detention. The soldier appeared before a military tribunal, where his detention was extended until next Wednesday for investigative purposes. Upon completion of the investigation, findings will be forwarded to the prosecution for review.
In a joint statement, Israel Police and the Military Police said they "will continue to act resolutely and in cooperation against the trafficking and leakage of military combat equipment into unauthorized hands, which poses a real danger to public security and may be used to commit serious criminal offenses."
