Simultaneously, the court has extended the detention of the eighth suspect by an additional four days following a "dramatic development" in the case.

Central District investigators have begun separating the suspects into tiers of culpability:
- The Murder Suspects: A 15-year-old boy and his friend are the primary suspects in the murder itself. Investigators believe the 15-year-old was fully aware his friend was armed with a knife before the confrontation.
- The Accomplices: The remaining seven teenagers are currently suspected of aggravated assault and causing injury under severe circumstances.
