Online Chametz Sale for Passover 2026 Now Open via Chief Rabbinate of Israel
JFeed facilitates the traditional 'Mechirat Chametz' process through the Chief Rabbinate, alongside a charitable 'Kimcha D’Pischa' initiative to support needy families via the Migdal Ohr organization.
As preparations for the upcoming Passover holiday begin, the official sale of chametz (leavened products) for the year 5786 (2026) will be conducted by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. The formal transaction is scheduled to take place on Wednesday morning, April 1 (14th of Nissan), prior to the final halakhic deadline for the removal of leavened goods.
The JFeed News Site has announced that the public can now appoint authorized representatives to facilitate the sale online. While the sale is legally binding and covers all categories of chametz, rabbinical authorities recommend that, whenever possible and where no significant money loss is involved, physical chametz should be destroyed or burned rather than sold.
To participate in the process, users must provide accurate personal details and sign a formal power of attorney (Shtar Minui). These forms will be consolidated and transferred to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel to be included in the national sale.

A Tradition of Charity In keeping with the pre-Passover tradition of Kimcha D’Pischa (charity for the poor), participants also can donate to the 'Migdal Ohr' organization. Led by Rabbi Yitzhak Grossman of Migdal HaEmek, the foundation distributes essential food parcels to families in need across Israel to ensure they can celebrate the holiday with dignity.
