A fugitive who fled Israel in 2021 to avoid serving a prison sentence was arrested Wednesday upon his return to the country, ending a years-long effort to bring him to justice. The man had left Israel approximately three months before he was scheduled to begin his incarceration and remained abroad for roughly three years.
The arrest was carried out by the Barkai Unit of the Israel Prison Service, a specialized division responsible for supervising service operations and tracking down fugitives. According to the Prison Service spokesperson, security personnel at Ben Gurion International Airport alerted the unit to the fugitive's arrival, and he was taken into custody immediately upon landing.
