President Donald J. Trump delivered a blistering response Tuesday to the sudden resignation of National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, dismissing the former Green Beret and CIA officer as “weak on security” and declaring it was “a good thing he’s out.”Kent submitted his resignation earlier in the day, publicly stating he could not “in good conscience” support ongoing U.S. military action against Iran. In his letter, Kent claimed Iran posed “no imminent threat” to America and accused the administration of being influenced by Israeli pressure and “misinformation” from its American lobby.
Trump, speaking during a White House press availability, did not hold back:“When I read his statement I realised it’s a good thing he’s out.”
The President then zeroed in on the core disagreement: “If I didn’t terminate Obama’s nuclear deal you would have had Nuclear 4 years ago… so when somebody is working with us that says Iran is not a threat, they aren’t very smart.”
Trump continued:“Every country realised Iran was a threat, the question was whether or not they wanted to do something about it.”
