Rupert Grint, who portrayed Ron Weasley throughout all eight Harry Potter films, is set to return to the role that launched his career, this time on the Broadway stage. The 36-year-old actor will play the adult version of Ron in "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" at New York's Lyric Theatre for a 17-week engagement beginning February 2, 2027.
The casting follows a similar move by Grint's film co-star Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the movies and is currently performing in the same stage production. Felton's run is scheduled to conclude in January 2027, just before Grint takes over. Producers report that Felton's involvement significantly boosted ticket sales, and they anticipate similar enthusiasm for Grint's appearance.
In a statement, Grint expressed his emotional connection to the character: "Ron has been a part of me since I was 11 years old. There's something full circle and special about stepping back into his shoes now, when we're both fathers. It's an enormous joy to return to Broadway in a role that defined such a large part of my life." Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender added: "Rupert's performance defined for generations what brave friendship means. His return creates a powerful bridge between the original story and the legacy that continues on stage."
This won't be Grint's first theatrical experience. He previously appeared on Broadway in 2014 in "It's Only a Play" and performed in London's "Mojo." Fans are now preparing to see him return to Platform 9¾, picking up where he left off years ago.
