Coldplay's Chris Martin Addresses Viral 'Cheating Cam' Incident

More than a month after Coldplay’s Boston concert went viral for all the wrong reasons, frontman Chris Martin has shown that the band isn’t running away from the controversy. Instead, he chose to address it, albeit with humor, during their recent performance in Hull, England.

The now-infamous incident, dubbed the “Kiss Cam Scandal”, unfolded when cameras at the Boston show caught Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, and his company’s HR director Kristin Cabot, embracing romantically on the arena’s giant screen. The viral moment exposed the pair’s affair, both were in committed relationships, and quickly spiraled beyond gossip blogs into international headlines.

“Life Gives You Lemons”

At the Hull concert on Monday, Martin paused to read fan signs in the crowd, a long-standing Coldplay tradition. When he spotted one referencing Boston, “Three times in three months”, he grinned:

“Okay, thank you for coming back after… that incident,” Martin told the cheering audience.

He then addressed the scandal more directly, acknowledging that their playful on-stage interactions with fans had suddenly become tricky:

“We’ve been doing this for a long time, stopping the show to talk to people,” Martin said. “And only recently has it become… problematic. But hey, life throws you lemons, you’ve got to make lemonade. So we’ll keep doing it.”

The Coldplay “Jumbotron Song” Tradition

The controversy stems from Coldplay’s signature “Jumbotron Song,” a segment in which Martin improvises tunes about unsuspecting fans captured live on the big screen. Usually it’s lighthearted and endearing, but in Boston, the tradition exposed a secret workplace romance that went global overnight.

Despite the fallout, Martin’s remarks make clear the band won’t abandon the ritual. For him, the scandal is now just part of Coldplay lore.

A Scandal That Won’t Fade

While it seemed likely the world would move on, the Byron–Cabot affair continues to resurface across social media and even mainstream news. Reports have since alleged further indiscretions by Byron, including thousands spent on OnlyFans, cementing his unwanted reputation as “the cheating CEO from Coldplay.”

But for Martin, the best approach appears to be humor and resilience. Coldplay, he made clear, will carry on singing, cameras and all, unfazed by the viral storm they helped ignite.
