Israeli singer Noam Bettan will carry the country’s hopes at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, which is set to take place in Vienna, Austria in May, after securing victory in the finals of Keshet 12’s popular talent show HaKokhav HaBa (Rising Star) on Tuesday evening. The 27-year-old from Ramat HaSharon will perform in the first semifinal on May 12, appearing in the second half of the show alongside competitors from Georgia, Portugal, Croatia, Sweden, Finland, Moldova, Greece, Montenegro, Estonia, San Marino, Poland, Belgium, Lithuania, and Serbia.

Bettan, born to a family of French olim and raised in Ra’anana, began his music career about eight years ago. He has since released albums and singles that climbed radio charts and gained strong traction on streaming platforms. French-speaking and known for his emotional delivery, he expressed deep gratitude immediately after his win. “I’m so excited. What an incredible privilege to represent the country and be the voice of our people on this huge stage. Thank you for your trust and love, thank you for choosing me. I promise to give my all at the upcoming Eurovision in Austria,” he said.

Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar welcomed the selection. “Congratulations to Noam Bettan. We look forward to seeing you at Eurovision, proudly representing the country and bringing the Israeli spirit to center stage. Europe, Israel is coming to win,” he stated.

Israel’s participation had been uncertain due to calls from several countries to exclude the nation over the war in Gaza following the October 7 attacks by Hamas terrorists. Iceland, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia ultimately withdrew from the contest after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed Israel’s eligibility to compete. Austria earned hosting rights after its artist JJ won the previous edition in Basel, though JJ initially called for Israel’s suspension before later retracting those remarks.

Bettan’s selection comes at a time when Eurovision continues to face political scrutiny, yet Israel has consistently emphasized its right to participate and showcase its culture on the international stage. The singer’s victory on HaKokhav HaBa marks the culmination of a competitive season that drew widespread attention, positioning him as the fresh voice to represent the country in one of the world’s largest live music events. With preparation already underway, expectations are high for a strong performance that reflects Israel’s resilience and musical talent.
