Music Survey

IDF Soldiers Pick Omer Adam as Top Artist

Nearly 250 military units participated in the army radio station's year-long "Soldiers' Voices" program, with troops selecting their most-requested songs and artists

Who is the Galgalatz Singer of the Year?

Israel's military radio station Galei Tzahal has released results from its year-long survey of soldiers' musical preferences, compiled through the daily program "Soldiers' Voices" (Kolot HaChayalim). The program, which airs two hours of soldier-selected music each day, gathered choices from approximately 250 military units throughout the year, including both active-duty and reserve forces. The vast majority of participating units were combat units. Thousands of soldiers from across Israel, representing all branches of service, roles, brigades and battalions, selected songs and dedicated them to loved ones. The station will announce winners of its broader annual music chart tomorrow at 2:00 PM.

While pop star Omer Adam emerged as the soldiers' favorite artist overall, with his various songs selected more frequently than any other performer's, the single most-requested track was "Aval At" by Meir and Avitar Banai. That song received the highest number of individual selections and dedications from troops. Adam, whose diverse catalog proved most popular among soldiers, is also nominated for Artist of the Year in Galei Tzahal's annual chart, and his album "Chelek MeHaNetzach" (Part of Forever) is nominated for Album of the Year.

In a statement, Galei Tzahal said: "Galei Tzahal is proud to conclude a year of rich Israeli music, with special field broadcasts from dozens of bases, outposts and IDF events throughout the country, in the north, south and Judea and Samaria, featuring one-time performances from bases and of course with Soldiers' Voices taking a significant part in shaping the nation's soundtrack." The station will air a special summary program of the year's Soldiers' Voices selections tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, hosted by Staff Sergeant Noga Shachar. The main annual chart, revealing Song of the Year and Artist of the Year, will be broadcast at 2:00 PM.
